Kai Sun

Kai Sun (孙恺) is the co-founder and chief scientist of Hesai Technology, the lidar company; he studied mechanical engineering (with a minor in electrical engineering) at Stanford, where his doctoral research focused on lasers and novel detection technologies, and stayed on at Stanford after graduating before co-founding Hesai . In December 2025 he unveiled the Fermi C500, a RISC-V-based high-performance main-control chip purpose-built for lidar, under the theme of whether lidar makers should "raise the ceiling or hold the floor" .
