Recurrent AI

Recurrent AI is an AI company best known as the parent of Moonshot AI, the developer of the Kimi large-language model, and for the arbitration dispute that erupted in late 2024 between its former investors and founder Yang Zhilin . The company was an early ZhenFund portfolio project and also counted GSR Ventures and angel investor Yutong Zhang among its backers . Yang Zhilin departed Recurrent AI to found Moonshot AI, a move he later stated had received board approval and all necessary procedures , though the transition became contentious: in November 2024, Recurrent AI and some of its former shareholders filed arbitration in Hong Kong against Yang and co-founder Zhang Yutao, reportedly over dissatisfaction with Recurrent AI's equity stake in Moonshot AI . Yutong Zhang, who had invested in Recurrent AI's angel round while at GSR Ventures, later served as a board representative for the company—a dual role that drew scrutiny during the dispute .
