Sea Limited is the Singapore-listed parent company of Garena and Shopee, founded by Forrest Li Xiaodong, a Shanghai Jiao Tong University graduate originally from Tianjin . The company traces its roots to Garena, which Li built into Singapore's first billion-dollar internet company by 2014 after securing the League of Legends Southeast Asia distribution rights in 2010 . He launched e-commerce platform Shopee in 2015, which became Southeast Asia's top platform within five years . In October 2021, Sea Limited's stock peaked at $363, giving it a market capitalization approaching $200 billion and briefly making it Asia's third-largest internet company . Tencent holds roughly a 20% stake in Sea Limited through its position in Garena, which dominates Southeast Asia's gaming market . More recently, Sea Limited has appeared as a follow-on investor in Chinese tech deals, including Yunqi Capital portfolio company Noematrix's Series A round in early 2026 .
