Stability AI is a generative AI company founded by Emad Mostaque , best known for open-sourcing the text-to-image model Stable Diffusion, which drove explosive community growth through an ecosystem of user interfaces, hosting products, and fine-tuning methods . The company made free access a core business principle, which helped scale usage but left model-related revenue comparatively modest .

By early 2024, Stability AI was in severe distress. The company nonetheless continued shipping product. In mid-2024 it added "Search & Replace" image editing and Stable Audio 2.0—trained on an AudioSparx-licensed dataset and capable of generating up to three minutes of stereo audio—to its Stable Assistant . More recently, in March 2024, VAST co-open-sourced the 3D foundation model TripoSR with Stability AI .
