Tantan is a Chinese stranger-social dating app, founded by serial entrepreneur Wang Yu in 2014 and fully acquired by Momo Technology in 2018 . Per a BlueRun Ventures piece, it emerged from a crowded field — at least 200 similar products at the time, few of which survived — by grinding through operational details: manually reviewing every user avatar to require real-person photos (even at a 40% signup loss), and cold-starting via street promotions in trendy spots like Sanlitun and Nanluoguxiang to seed a well-matched early user base . Wang Yu later moved on to found "Qianshou," a dating-and-marriage platform backed by Qiming .
