Recently, the 2026 China Biopharma Leaders 100 list was unveiled at the 2026 Shanghai International Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Conference and the Pujiang Biomedical Source Innovation Conference. Now in its fourth edition, the list recognizes benchmark enterprises across three sectors: biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and frontier interdisciplinary fields.

Compared with the previous three editions, this year's list aligns more closely with the spirit of innovation and excellence that defines its honorees. In terms of organization, the partnership network has continued to expand — the organizers collaborated with Qiming Venture Partners and others to build ecosystem synergies, engaged multiple media outlets to form a media matrix, and appointed compliance advisors for the list.
The selection process combines nomination and recommendation mechanisms. Data collection integrates publicly available information with field research, while evaluation employs both model-based scoring and expert review. This multi-pronged approach, drawing on broad input and collective expertise, strengthens the list's credibility and extends its influence.
Chinese biopharma companies are advancing into broader international markets. Biomedicine is a highly globalized industry with strong potential for further internationalization. In recent years, the globalization of Chinese innovative drugs has accelerated, with overseas licensing deals repeatedly hitting record highs and the proportion of large transactions increasing significantly. According to Artery Orange data, as of August 2026, domestic innovative drug BD transactions totaled 113 deals with an aggregate value of $119.998 billion — equivalent to 77% and 91% of full-year 2025 figures, respectively. Moreover, overseas registration of innovative drugs and devices has begun to bear fruit, as domestic companies with promising blockbuster products have secured regulatory approvals for international markets. The innovative strength of local pharmaceutical and device companies is rising rapidly, establishing foothold after foothold for homegrown technology on the global stage.
Furthermore, Chinese biopharma companies are boldly venturing into the "uncharted territories" of life sciences. The current wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation is deepening, with frontier technologies represented by biomedicine entering an unprecedented period of concentrated activity. Breakthroughs in therapeutic gene editing, recombinant antibodies, novel drug delivery systems, and cross-disciplinary advances in AI-driven drug discovery, brain-computer interfaces, and high-throughput sequencing continue to emerge. For instance, the world's first invasive brain-computer interface medical device has entered clinical application; Shize Biotech's off-the-shelf iPSC-derived cell therapy and Pulnovo Medical's pulmonary artery radiofrequency ablation system have garnered international acclaim.
