Daniel

Daniel (吴旦) is a Chinese investor and entrepreneur best known as the first backer of *Black Myth: Wukong*. He joined ZhenFund in 2012 after cold-approaching partner Anna Fang, rose to become the firm's youngest-ever VP within 18 months, and built a reputation as what MiHoYo founder Liu Wei called "the strongest game investor in China over the past five years" . His early bets at ZhenFund included titles that reportedly captured 70% of the market's successful mobile game startups at the time .

In 2014 he left to co-found Hero Games with Ying Shuling, serving as its president. Through Hero, he invested 60 million RMB for 20% of Game Science in 2017 and later poured in at least another 100 million RMB, making Hero the sole co-publisher of *Black Myth: Wukong* . He also backed Kuro Games from 2017 onward, at one point holding 49% of the studio behind *Wuthering Waves* . His investment philosophy centers on founder quality over formal metrics—"the methodology is simple: it's about the person" —and he returned to ZhenFund in 2024 to discuss these bets .

Notably, he is a different person from Daniel Gross, the Silicon Valley VC and co-founder of Safe Superintelligence .
