Eric Xu

Eric Xu is a co-founder and CTO of Liuxing Technology (留形科技), a 3D reconstruction startup he established in 2022 with Qin Youming while both were PhD students at the University of Hong Kong's MaRS Lab . The lab's FAST-LIO open-source project, where Xu was first author, had gained 2.4k GitHub stars by mid-2024 and made an "international impact" in 3D mapping . Liuxing's products turned profitable within three months of launch . Xu's background is in drone and robotics research — he and Qin spent their early PhD years testing algorithms in what was then a basement boiler room at HKU's Haking Wong Building, crashing drones before MaRS Lab became a top academic facility . He was also named to a ZhenFund portfolio founders list in early 2026 .
