Luchen Tech (潞晨科技) is a Beijing-based AI infrastructure company founded in July 2021 by Yang You, a UC Berkeley PhD who was nominated for the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award and made Forbes 30 Under 30 . The company builds Colossal-AI, an open-source distributed deep learning system positioned as "shovels" for the large-model gold rush — a framing ZhenFund's Z Talk used to distinguish Luchen's infrastructure play from application-layer competitors . Colossal-AI has ranked first on GitHub Trending globally and counts roughly 40,000–100,000 developers in its active open-source community as of late 2024 .

ZhenFund angel-invested in Luchen in 2021 and has backed it through at least four rounds, including a Series A++ of hundreds of millions of RMB announced in September 2024 . By October 2024, Yang told AI Technology Review that the company's valuation had grown 40× over three years, and he was targeting a 20–30 billion RMB market cap with 2 billion RMB in revenue . The firm has since expanded from training optimization into inference infrastructure and video generation, launching Open-Sora in mid-2024 as what it called the first open-source Sora-architecture video model . Yang himself was named to Fortune China's 40 Under 40 business elite list in 2024 .
