Tao Wang

Tao Wang (汪滔, also known as Frank Wang) is the founder of DJI, the drone company he started in 2006 while pursuing a master's degree at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, initially to crack consumer drone solutions . He's widely regarded as one of the defining hardware entrepreneurs of his generation — Insta360 founder Liu Jingkang, for one, calls him "an opponent who absolutely deserves respect," noting that by the standard of an entrepreneur's duty to keep a company durable and ever stronger, DJI has delivered . An oft-cited piece of his origin story is the backing of HKUST professor Zexiang Li, who invested when Tao Wang's team was falling apart and few believed in him — per 暗涌Waves, "without that support, the company might not exist" .
