In 1956, China established its first rocket and missile research institute — the Fifth Academy of the Ministry of National Defense — marking the birth of the nation's space program. In 1993, sixteen countries joined together to build the International Space Station, the largest platform ever to operate in orbit, which completed construction in 2010 and entered full service. In 1999, China launched and recovered Shenzhou-1, opening a new era of crewed spaceflight. In 2012, SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft delivered cargo to the International Space Station, formally inaugurating the era of private space exploration. In 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope, successor to Hubble, launched successfully. In 2021, MaHui member company Space Transportation completed a successful flight test of its Tianxing II rocket. In 2022, MaHui member company GalaxySpace launched its second batch of six satellites, along with one commercial remote-sensing satellite, to validate low-earth-orbit internet constellation networking technology and service capabilities, as well as remote-sensing capabilities.
