NIU Technologies Debuts on the Nasdaq

At 9:30 p.m. Beijing time on the 19th, NIU Technologies officially listed on the Nasdaq in the United States, trading under the ticker symbol NIU. The company priced its IPO at $9 per share, offering 7 million ADSs (American Depositary Shares) in total. CEO Yan Li, founder and VP of R&D Yilin Hu, and four other founders all traveled to the Nasdaq to ring the opening bell.

A Leader in the Lithium-Ion Two-Wheeler Market

Founded in 2014, NIU Technologies is a smart urban mobility solutions provider dedicated to offering global users more convenient and eco-friendly urban transportation tools, making city life better. The company's smart lithium-ion electric vehicles — the NIU Electric series — have sold over 430,000 units worldwide, with operations spanning 23 countries. In 2017, the company recorded revenue of RMB 769 million, up 117% year-over-year. The latest figures show revenue of RMB 557 million in the first half of 2018 alone, representing 95% year-over-year growth.

As environmental concerns continue to drive demand, electric two-wheelers are gaining traction globally. China currently represents the world's largest market, with 27 million units sold in 2017 generating $8 billion in sales. By 2022, the overall market is projected to reach $13 billion with 34.9 million units sold, indicating steady growth momentum.

The vast majority of two-wheelers in China today still run on bulky lead-acid batteries. Lithium-ion batteries offer clear advantages in weight, safety, range, and lifespan — replacing lead-acid with lithium-ion is an inevitable trend across every industry. As the earliest company to launch lithium-ion electric two-wheelers, NIU Technologies currently leads China's market with 26.0% volume share and 39.5% value share, ranking first in the industry.

A Global Brand Built on Smart Two-Wheelers

Since launching its first smart lithium-ion electric vehicle, the NIU N1, in 2015, NIU Technologies has adhered to a "less is more" design philosophy. Its products are instantly recognizable, blending technology and fashion, and have cultivated a devoted following. The NIU Electric ECU smart central controller and sensors distributed throughout the vehicle enable big-data analysis across 462 data points in 72 dimensions, connecting rider and machine in real time. This data-driven approach guides users toward better riding habits and maintenance practices, delivering a distinctly smarter experience than traditional electric vehicles.

The NIU Electric series has also won multiple prestigious international design awards including Germany's Red Dot, with the M1 being the only mobility product in 20 years to sweep all seven major global awards.

Yet NIU Technologies has never positioned itself as merely a two-wheeler company — it sees itself as a global brand. It has established "NIU You" clubs in over 50 cities across China, cultivating a vibrant, culturally cohesive community through regular events, its proprietary app, and social networks, significantly boosting user engagement and loyalty. Lifestyle and cycling accessories built around its mobility design are gradually growing into NIU's distinctive lifestyle brand.

Globally, NIU Technologies began laying groundwork early. It entered Europe in 2016, later expanding into Southeast Asia, and now operates in 23 countries. In Europe, it has already broken into the top three in the mid-range electric vehicle market with an 11.3% market share. In June this year, the new M+ model launched in Paris, accelerating its global strategy. The U.S. IPO marks yet another milestone — its future development is worth watching.
