Unknown (未知君, also styled XBiome) is a Shenzhen-based company that develops microbiome drugs using AI — it describes itself as working on gut-microbiome therapeutics . Founded around 2018, it raised an A round led by Gaorong Capital with Morningside and ZhenFund that August, followed by an A+ round early the next year ; by 2020 it had closed a Series B+ in the tens of millions of dollars , and in December 2021 a nearly $100 million Series B, at which point it held five self-developed first-in-class microbiome drug pipelines and had launched an "AI×BT" strategy . Its co-founder and CEO is Yan Tan (谭验) .

The company runs clinical collaborations with hospitals including Peking University Cancer Hospital, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University — with the latter on a fecal-microbiota capsule program for aGvHD . Its joint venture with Ketuo Hengtong, Juntuo Biopharma, received a US FDA IND clearance in August 2022 for its KEX02 live-biotherapeutic combined with a PD-1 inhibitor in non-small cell lung cancer — among the first LBP pipelines from China to get an FDA green light . 5Y Capital is a repeat backer, with managing director Jing Xutian calling Unknown the category's head company and the FDA clinical clearance a milestone for microbiome drugs as a new modality .
