2022 marks the sixth year of 36 Under 36. Unlike previous editions, which selected 36 entrepreneurs, 36Kr has upgraded the program to the X·36Under36 S-Class Young Entrepreneur Directory — aimed at identifying potentially great Chinese founders earlier than ever.
Today's post-85 and even post-95 entrepreneurs typically grew up in an environment of greater material abundance, cultural diversity, and acceptance of commercial enterprise. But the new challenge before them: the low-hanging fruit of the era has already been picked. And among the over 1,000 founders under 36 surveyed by 36Kr this year, 28% founded their companies after the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 — a new factor beyond business that no one can ignore.
Also worth noting: among these 1,000-plus founders, those with technology backgrounds reached 73%. China's engineer dividend and scientist dividend are crossing a critical threshold. By comparison, this proportion was only 31% among entrepreneurs born before 1980, and just 57% among those born between 1980 and 1985.
Finally, with help from numerous experts, professors, and corporate executives, this sample of 1,000-plus entrepreneurs was narrowed down to the first directory of 360 founders.
