Source Code Capital's Hongjiang Zhang Elected Foreign Member of US National Academy of Engineering

On February 9 local time, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced its 2022 class of newly elected members. Hongjiang Zhang, Venture Partner at Source Code Capital, was elected as a foreign member for his outstanding technical contributions and leadership in multimedia computing.

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional honors for engineers, recognizing individuals who have made "outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education." The National Academy of Engineering is the premier engineering organization in the United States and one of the country's four national academies (alongside the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Research Council). It also selects the three most prestigious awards in engineering: the Russ Prize, the Gordon Prize, and the Charles Stark Draper Prize.
Dr. Zhang joined Source Code Capital as a Venture Partner in 2017. Previously, he served as Executive Director and CEO of Kingsoft Group, CEO of Kingsoft Cloud, and board member at Cheetah Mobile, Xunlei, and 21Vianet. He was Chief Technology Officer of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group and Dean of Microsoft Advanced Technology Center, one of Microsoft's first ten "Distinguished Scientists," and a founding member and later Associate Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia.
Dr. Zhang is also an internationally renowned pioneer and thought leader in multimedia. He is a Fellow of both the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His groundbreaking contributions to multimedia research earned him the 2010 IEEE Technical Achievement Award and the 2012 ACM SIGMM Technical Achievement Award. In recognition of his distinguished record in R&D and technology transfer, he received the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award in 2008. He has published nearly 400 academic papers and holds nearly 200 international patents, making him one of the most influential scientists in computer science globally.
