Luminous Ventures (光合创投) is the latest brand name for what began as Lightspeed Venture Partners' China operation, a two-decade evolution completed in October 2025 when the firm formally shed its foreign branding . The entity traces back to 2006, when Lightspeed first entered China; it became a fully independent local operation as "光速中国" in 2011, rebranded to "光速光合" in 2023, and finally to Luminous Ventures in 2025 . James Mi (宓群), formerly Google's Greater China chief representative, joined as partner in 2008 and built a track record that includes Meituan, Pinduoduo, and Inphi Corporation during the mobile internet wave . In recent years the firm has shifted deeper into hard tech, with representative bets on humanoid robotics (Unitree), AI chipmaker MetaX, embodied intelligence startup DiffRobotics, and AI pharmaceutical developer Helixon, where it co-led a $787 million round in 2026 . It also co-led the $70 million Series B in consumer exoskeleton maker Hypershell Tech in late 2025 .
