Luminous Ventures (光合创投) is the latest brand name for the China arm of Lightspeed Venture Partners, formally adopted in late 2025 after two prior iterations: "Lightspeed China" (光速中国) in 2011 and "Lightspeed光合" in 2023 . The firm traces its China presence back to 2006, when the California-headquartered Lightspeed began local operations; founding partner James Mi (宓群), formerly Google's Greater China chief representative, joined as partner in 2008 and went on to back Meituan, Pinduoduo, and Inphi Corporation . By 2019 the firm had raised a $560 million fund and was managing dual-currency vehicles .

In its "second decade," as 暗涌Waves put it, Luminous has pitched itself deeper into hard tech and industrial bets—portfolio names cited include Unitree (宇树科技), Moxi (沐曦), and Zhipu AI . A March 2026 promotion round saw the firm elevate three post-1990s VPs, including one born after 1995 focused on AI investing, part of what it described internally as a "structural adjustment" to close the gap with technical trends .
