Volcano Engine

Volcano Engine is ByteDance's cloud computing and enterprise AI arm, led by president Tan Dai . It operates the Doubao large model family and the Huoshan Ark "multi-cloud, multi-model" platform, which hosts ByteDance's own models alongside partners like Zhipu AI and Moonshot AI . The unit has positioned itself aggressively in the AI infrastructure race: as of early 2026, it was processing 6.3 trillion tokens daily, up over 200% in six months, while Doubao became the first domestic AI product to surpass 100 million DAU .

Its product stack spans three layers. At the foundation, ServingKit, TrainingKit, and AgentKit target inference optimization, model training, and rapid Agent deployment respectively . The Coze (扣子) platform, upgraded in April 2025, offers low-code Agent development with visual orchestration and MCP tool integration . Volcano Engine has also built out an accelerator program, V-START, that pairs portfolio companies with compute subsidies, technical co-development, and investor introductions .

In deal-making, it has moved from pure platform provider to strategic investor: in January 2026, Volcano Engine co-led a funding round in Yitu Technology alongside Ruicheng Fund . It has also partnered with autonomous driving firm DeepRoute.ai on VLA models and counts Mindverse among its cloud customers . Wu Di, its head of intelligent algorithms, has been the public technical voice on its model roadmap .
