Yixi Biotech (一兮生物) is a Suzhou-based synthetic biology company founded in 2019 by Liu Zhenyun, who previously worked in gene and cell therapy . The company aims to expand the boundaries of human food sources and explore new forms of life through engineered biology . Its flagship work centers on HMOs (human milk oligosaccharides): in March 2024, its 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL) received official approval from China's National Health Commission , and it has since built joint R&D centers with Jiangnan University, China Agricultural University, and Northeast Agricultural University to advance HMO applications in infant nutrition, adult gut health, and immune modulation . The company raised a nearly RMB 100 million Pre-A+ round in 2023, led by Huangpu Biotech with follow-on from Oasis Capital and Oriza Holdings among others .
