Hongjiang Zhang is a computer scientist and venture capital investor who serves as a venture partner at Source Code Capital, which he joined in late 2016 after retiring as CEO of Kingsoft . He previously spent over a decade at Microsoft, where he was a founding member of Microsoft Research Asia, later founded and led Microsoft Research Asia's engineering arm (ATC), and served as CTO of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group . At Kingsoft from 2011 to 2016, he was group executive director and CEO, and also held board seats at Cheetah Mobile, Xunlei, and VNET Group .
In parallel to his investment role, Zhang has been deeply involved in China's AI research infrastructure: he was named founding chairman of the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI) at its 2018 launch and remained in that role as of 2024 .
