Alex Zhou

Alex Zhou is a Managing Partner at Qiming Venture Partners, where he joined in 2014 and was promoted in May 2024, with a long-term focus on frontier tech and AI. In May 2026 he was named to the Forbes Midas List — and the same year has been a strong exit window for him: in the first five months of 2026 alone, four portfolio companies (Biren Technology, Zhipu AI, Axera Semiconductor, Viewtrix Technology) went public.

His signature is early, contrarian timing — what Qiming describes as a pragmatic "half-step ahead" approach, entering before mainstream recognition rather than chasing hype. In late 2019, when China's GPU ecosystem was still immature, he led Biren Technology's seed round at founding and backed it through subsequent rounds, eventually seeing it become the first Hong Kong-listed GPU company. In early 2022, before LLMs were widely recognized commercially, he invested in Zhipu AI, supporting development of its first-generation GLM model. His embodied-intelligence track runs even longer: he backed UBTECH Robotics over a decade ago, and has since led investments in full-stack robotics names including TARS, Dexmal, GalaxyBot and ACE Robotics.
